A. That would not be good.
More costly, far less reliability, not much better fuel mileage.
Different trans, harness, radiator, and PCM.
B. The 2.2 swap is better, but still need new trans etc. And you would need access to a factory scan tool.
C. The 2.4L is one of GM's worst engines IMO.

ok, just for starters here, the 2.4 is a great engine. it is reliable and runs for many miles, decent power for a economy 4 cyl designed back then. sure the new 2.2 ecos are a lil better, but not much. the worst gm 4 cyl is the earlier gen 2200. so don't bash the 2.4.
but, the parts list above is relevant. just had to speak my mind about his false 2.4 opinion.

Actually, the worst GM 4-cylinder was probably Chevrolet 2300 back in the '70s.
The "2200" isn't really all that bad. And there is only one generation of "2200" (1998-2003)

yea thats the gen i meant, i just said older so some people didn't think i meant the 2.2 eco, which technically is a 2200.

No, the Ecotec is the Ecotec. A 2200 is it's own thing. The Ecotec is actually 2196 btw.
