the car is a 2001 oldsmobile intrigue, with the 4t65

the problem began in the end of december. after the car sat idleing for a few hours, when we went to drive it started shifting harder than usual. the longer we drove it, the harder it shifted untill it started to jerk HARD into gears. the SES light came on. when we got home we shut if off and 2 hours later we drove to checker auto parts, and it shifted just fine, but we pulled the p0742 code.

it drove fine for about a week, then it did it again. but the next time we drove it it didn't do it, and it didnt' again for about a week. it went off and on for about 3 weeks. then it didn't do it for like 2 months. now its doing it again, but when its not doing it, its 100% ok, when it is, its really bad.

the funny thing, we found if we shut the car off for just like 20 seconds after its been shifting hard, when we restart it it shifts just fine. and we've gone on quite a few 2 hour trips from wisconsin to minnesota without any problems

anyone have any input? its my girlfriends car, and we're tring to find a low cost solution to get it fixed, she's pretty broke

thanks

It could be a sticking valve, a peice of debris, or electronic. Chances are it is some sort of electronic thing, seeing as it is intermitent. There is not an easy answer to this one. Sorry.
