Gauging ideas for my build

Staying NA, so I don't wanna hear any of that crap.

Parts I have so far:

WOTTech Street/strip cam
  • 259/265 adv duration
  • 210/216 .050" duration
  • .506"/.506" lift @ 1.6:1 Rocker Ratio
  • 113 Intake Center Line
  • 114 Lobe Seperation Angle
Stage 2 P&P manifolds
65MM TB
P&P heads (bought from Matt Fuller)
  • Milled .020
  • Bumps CR to around 9.7:1
  • 3500 Valves
  • LS6 Yellow Springs
CAI
Narrowed SBC connecting rods
Full Exhaust

Now I'm thinking about picking up

Diamond Forged 10.5:1 CR pistons (+.20)
TCE Double roller timing set kit (with the modded crank and timing cover)
Crank scraper
Roller Rockers (when Ben makes them)
Cometic Head gaskets, thinking either .040 or .045 thickness

What do you think on this list I'll need and is just overkill

Seems like a decent list but I think you should bump the compression up to around 12.5:1

You better order that double roller quick if you want one...who knows if TCE will make more.
I don't think I'd go with that thin of a head gasket either. Maybe .050" at the thinnest.

Thanks guys, this is the kind of info I was looking for.

I'll pick up the TCE unit with tax refund money (maybe) Time to pull apart that block in the basement

I was thinking of 11.5:1 but what about being able to run pump gas? I thought after 11:1 with Alluminm (sp) heads, starts needing race gas. (13:1 with iron heads)

Isn't that the other way around? I thought the aluminum tolerates high compression better.

Aluminum heads do tolerate higher compression better, but more importantly is the shape of the combustion chamber. 3400/3500 heads are nice beacuse they squeeze the air/fuel mixture into a tight spot right in the middle of the combustion chamber.
Of course tuning gets very important - with careful tuning, you can run 12:1 on pump gas.

Does a higher CR help that much?

When I was getting ideas for my Delta build and I think one full CR point bumped HP about 2 HP or is it more of a supporting mod?

based on what i've learned from discussing this with my engines teacher is you should see on average 4-5% hp increase per CR point so it can be quite a signifficant difference if you really bump it up. going from the stock 9.1:1 of the LA1 to an 11.1:1 could yield around 14-20 hp

Genrally speaking, most pro engine builders say that the key to power lies in the cylinder heads, not the bottom end. But a stout bottom end will nicely compliment a set of killer heads.
