I'm wanting to do something really neat with my interior and I got this really great idea. I'm wanting to do something with the top, kind of a star effect with either LEDs or fiber optics... but I'm not quite sure how to do it or where to start... if anyone has any suggestions or another idea that might be cool, I'd love to hear it... I'm open for any suggestions on the interior...

Like a movie theatre? I know the AMC 24's here have it. I think that they did an episode of "Pimp My Ride" with that sort of theme too. maybe you can find out how they did it.
Good Luck.

you'd have to take the headliner down and put led's through it.
even though i'd kinda like to see it done, i think i'd look like ass.

I guess I don't really get what you're saying...do you want leds shining through your headliner or do you want something projecting up onto your headliner?

yeah I guess I wasn't too clear.. lol I'm probably going to be just putting LEDs through it.... not sure what it's going to look like, but I'm kinda going for a star look... like a bunch of stars on the top... thought it would be cool.... mixed with all the other stuff I have planned...

for that kind of project, i'd get a headliner from a junkyard, and a bunch of led's from ebay. (cheapest i've found)
it would be aneasy project to do. the hardest would be running all the wires and making the design.
but the problem i see is that is going to be ridiculously bright. 6 white leds in my dome light, lit up the entire car....

I won't be poking them all the way through.. only maybe like a third of the way through, and I am getting the ones from ozium... I think that's the name of the site... and I'm going to wire them with my dash lights so they turn on when the others do..

Fiber optics would be way cool. that would be clearly visible...without the blinding effects, and subtle enought to keep you out of trouble with the cops too....

^i think fiber optic would be 100x better. even if only the tips are through, they still have a 30 degree focus on them. you can sand them down... but then your going to be driving in what seems like day light.
only downside to it, is fiber optic is pricey.

yeah, I found a fiberoptics company on the net, and It will run me around $60 or so to get everything I need... So I think I'm going to go with Fiberoptics. $60 pays for the fiber, about 20 ft of it, and the LED unit.

is that all you are planning to do to the interior!? i would get some other stuff done first and work that into the theme of your car......just having the star lights wouldn't fit in right to me......but to each their own i guess.

Here's the link....

I am planning on doing some other stuff too with the interior.. not just the fiberoptics. This is probably one of the bigger things that I'm doing so I want to get it done first..

i think it'd be cool idea to get a junkyard headliner die it black take out the dome light , use some fiberglass to build up the edges and glass a thin piece of plexy glass over the headliner. You could sand off the tips of all the leds then use clear clue (super glue) glue them to the plexy glass you could even get some frost spray and give the whole sheet a frosted look (hide the wires) a bit better. I think that'd be radically differnt. just depends on how much time and how much money you want to spend. just another opnion kinda out there and would require some skill to pull off

Also if you're going to use leds... get probaly some of the dimmer ones you can find or atleast diffuse the light somehow, otherwise your car will be flooded with light (unless that's what you want). Does sounds cool though, if I had time I might try somthing like that.

The place I'm getting it from is selling me an LED fiberoptics kit.. it comes with the main unit that has the LEDs in it, and I just run the fiberoptics through there, and I can set it to twinkle and I think a few more settings.... but they said it runs on 12V...... is that too much for the car??? like will it drain the battery????
if you are confused, I have the e-mail I got from them...
