Im about to clear my second headlight, but I would like be able to do it using the oven, seeing how it seems so much eaiser than a hair dryer. Do I need to put it in a pan perhaps wraped in a towl? If this worked for you, be a buddy and share the info.

yeah dude it is totally safe. The oven doesn't get hot enough to melt anything but the silicon at that temperature. I used a cookie sheet only to prevent any silicon from dripping into the oven, which it didn't. Oh yeah, use oven mitts because it is fairly hot and have something thin and flat ready to pry apart the little clips that are holding it together.

methinks you need to learn how to use a search button before you bake your headlights. I posted a how-to in another n00b's thread this morning.

edit: jesus tap dancing christ! it was YOUR thread!

I wasn't making fun of you. I was merely pointing out that you need to boost your reading and posting skills.

^ Agreed... littlebandito, there are at least 3 threads that each contain ALL the info you could ever need to know about EVERY method of clearing your headlights and EVERY precaution to take while doing so. The search button at the top of the page is your friend.

Hope everything turned out for ya.

Just a Q but doesn't heating up adhesive chemicals give off toxic gases? If so them I would not do this in an oven you want to cook in again.

yeah, it probably does, but guess what? you're not boiling the old silicone on the lights, just softening it. if you were to crank up the heat to boil the silicone, then you'd have problems.

NO your not boiling it but going through a state change (solid to liquid) does give off some fumes. Just like when you outgas alum prior to powdercoating. Or bake powdercoating, it gives off txoic fumes as is most definately NOT something you want to do in an oven you are going to use again for baking edibles. That's why I have a separate oven for powder coating and what not.

If you want to cook Ur LitEs fine its urs brainz.

that's why you leave the door open a little...let those gases out! There are gases, but it's a negligible amount for the amount of heat and time the lights are in the oven.

techniacally you aren't going through a state change either... you are going from a solid to a softer solid... if it was liquid it's run out of the light...
