If you haven't read my post from around June about the GD MF POS thieves then here's the update: I had some stuff, they took my stuff, insurance didn't want to give me $$ for my stuff, check came, dad lost check, new check came, I got some new stuff.
Old pics are here (not for faint of heart): Bastards
Ok, now for the goods. I bought an Eclipse AVN2454 (double din) and installed it with minimal trouble in the factory opening. No trimming necessary. Fits like a glove
HOW?: To make a bracket for it I just cut off the sides of the stock radio and used those. You know, 3 holes on the left, 2 holes on the right. Anyway, drilled holes in the right spots to mount them to the sides of the Eclipse and the rest was just adjusting them to the right height so it will fit in the opening in the bezel. Moral of the story, THIS double din will fit perfectly. I would assume that others wouldn't be too hard either.
Pics:
If you read my break-in thread.....yes, I have an alarm now. Viper 791xv with battery backup main siren and 2 interior pain sirens. Going to get installed today.
Let me know what you guys think and ask whatever you want.

Wrightie: Thanks! No, the deck that WAS at the bottom was stolen along with all the other stuff. This new one has 2 CD slots, one for CD/MP3, the other for Nav/DVD.
Cherrington: LMAO! That's one of the funniest things I've heard this week. Hope it's not copywritten because I'm using it.

I am pretty jealous. I work for Fujitsu and I can't even afford the Navi system. My supervisor installed one on his car and seems to like it alot. You should see the new lcd technology they are working on. They demoed a new unit for our factory that can run navigation and dvd movies at the same time. The driver looks at the screen and sees the navigation displayed while the passenger sees a full screen dvd. It has something to do with light being reflected and the speed that it is recieved. Since they had a working model, I would expect to see something like it in the next year or two.

Mikegett: Wow, two screens in one. That sounds pretty high tech but I wonder how the quality would be and what you would see if you were in sitting the middle?
FormulaNerd: If you haven't checked into Eclipse before. They have 2 higher models than this one. The AVN5435, which is basically the same as mine but is Sat. Radio ready and higher voltage outputs. The newest one is the AVN5495 which has a built in hard drive to store all of your songs and whatever else.
Thanks for the compliments everyone!

The quality was pretty good for in dash standards. It looked just as good as the current models out by eclipse. I just feel that all lcd's are too weak for indash locations. On sunny days they wash out very easily. Laptops suffer from the same problems, but the newer ultrabrights do a pretty good job of overcoming it. I look forward to seeing this integrated into there screens.
There is a location in the center that you see both playing. It is a very small window and is something that front passengers would ever encounter.
FormulaNerd, the new double dins with Hard Drive capability is pretty cool but is very expensive. I believe it is around 2400-2600 retail.

My new alarm that I was supposed to get installed the day I started this thread...but didn't. It's a Viper 791xv with a battery backup main siren and 2 pain sirens that I'll put in the interior.

As stated in the first post...no trimming was necessary. It just had to be aligned right. I don't know about the size of the one you want to put in but I do know that if it is ANY bigger than mine it won't fit without slight trimming. Mainly the bottom due to the way they open. Hope this helps.

The 5435 isn't worth the extra $$$ in my opinion. It adds Sirius and high voltage/low impedance...the only differences pretty much. And the 5495 is just too rich for my blood no matter what it has on it. Come on, another grand for a hard drive?

It's a 6.5" Touchscreen. I got this one new off ebay for $999 with only $14 shipping. The only one I've ever seen that low. All the other ones are between $1100 and $1300 for the AVN2454. The higher models are well, much higher priced.
