RSM vs FFP (pulley talk)

to my knowledge this hasnt been discussed thoroughly. im looking for comments from people who have the RSM crank pulley or the FFP underdrive pulley. which is better????

Def FFP. RSM isnt an actual ud pulley,just lighter, and it is much more $
I have an FFP,great mod for the money. More off the line power,revs quicker

I presume you understand that the concept of a true "underdrive" pulley is that it's less drag on the crank from pulley driven accessories, right? Such as A/C, power steering, water pump, tensioner and idler pulleys, and alternator. Benefit is not only less drag on the motor, but at high RPM's it will also prevent your water pump from cavitating.

Personally, the lightened pulley from RSM will let you rev a little bit faster, but the smaller diameter of the underdrive pulley from FFP will do even better for less money.

I'd say if the pulley is smaller, you will need a smaller belt.

I have the RSM pulley and I like it, I also have a lightened water pump and the alt pulley too, but that isn't the in the car right now

what I would do is contact FFP and ask them. Tell them what application you have. Simple.

doesn't unorthadox make an underdrive pulley for the alero? if so how does it compare to the RSM and the FFP?

yes, they do, it's for the 2.3/2.4, not for the 3400 V6.

i got the FFP pulley, it requires a 1 inch shorter belt.

fairly simple install. i believe someone a long time ago (springsfastestalero) said that the FFP pully was better because it acted more as a dampener which was healthier for your motor in the long run, because the RSM one is just a light pulley, with little to no dampening.

i run 3 12's and 2 amps and the pulley didnt make that big a difference but because of my camshaft my car idles higher than yours so i guess i am the wrong person to give advice on that subject. as far the belt, the goodyear part number is 4060855. however, goodyear is somewhat hard to find unless you order online but give that number to the parts guy at any auto store and they can cross reference for one they have in stock.

Not to be a pain with these questions, but which underdrive pulley did you purchase from FFP. There is two pulleys for the 3.4 DOHC for different year cars. Which one did you purchase or does it matter which one?

you shouldnt have any codes, but if your SES light does come on you will need a crank case learn. they suggest disconnecting the battery for 24hrs to see if that fixes it first.

jackal is right, if it throws a code you will need a crank or what gm calls a C.A.S.E. learn, any dealership will do it and it normally runs about $30. I havent heard of many needing that though. One thing to remind you of though, you need to transfer the 24x sensor ring from the back of the stock pulley onto the new one, its not hard, just 3 little screws and a bit of anti sieze. The ffp will come with directions on this. and alero is correct it is a 1" shorter belt. I have 2 500 rms 1000 peak amps with the ud pulley with no issues, have had the pulley on for 2 years now.
