Fi-Alero's build log

Hello all.
As a few of you know, I have been slaving away on my 2000 Alero. I'm trying to get it show ready by the beginning of September, and I'm no where near finished lol. Richie has been guiding me through some things with this, and I couldn't be more appreciative of his help.

Anywho, here is some things I hope to complete:
1. Fiberglass all four doors, dash, and a few other goodies
2. Relocate all the window switches to the center console
3. Paint the whole interior to match the exterior
4. Paint calipers
5. Clear corners (maybe?)

That is just a few things, of course I will run into more stuff to do along the way.

First, The car during paint (my camera lense had some trash on it, so please excuse the weird bubbles on the pics):

I will take pics of the finished product as soon as I get a good day to wash the car lol. The colors are a dodge blue, dodge silver, and the pinstripe is a dodge sublime green

Here are some pics of my current progress on the interior:
3 gallons of USC B-440 Resin

I ripped all the vinyl off the doors, roughed them up, filled the holes I wanted with cardboard, then drilled holes in the plastic

Layed out my glass (.75oz)

Here is a pic of one of the backdoors with a layer on it

Here is a pic of one of the front doors with a layer on it

I currently have all the doors with a layer of glass on them. Hopefully I will be getting some filler work done pretty soon. I don't have alot of time to work on this, so bare with me lol. Please post all if your feedback, good or bad, I don't mind lol. (bdyman, feel free to tell it like it is lol)

looks decent so far..but i also, don't know anything about what i'm really looking at.

can't wait to see the results of moving your door switches to the center... hmm.. i was thinking about that the other day, but quickly veto'd how much work that'd be. (need to focus on school)

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Well, I did think about it, but here I can not get a safety inspection sticker if the handles are shaved. Also I use this car as my SPL car, so door poppers would just be something else to mess up lol.

very funky paint job!

what exactly are you doing w/the doors? i dunno anything about fiberglass.

what's shaving the handles?

what are you gonna put in it soundwise? i'm just learning how to do audio stuff; installed sub, back, front this past week. making it your SPL car...that is gonna be sick!

^he already wins SPL contests.... so technically its already been made into an "spl car"

if you want to see the end result of a fiberglassed car, look up aftermathalero. he has fiberglassed doors/dash. Its replacing the vinyl w/ fiberglass, which you can custom mold to however you want. Takes alot of work, but when done right, looks great.

Yes u can. Louisiana inspections are nothing. They just check for wipers, all the blinker lights, headlights, tails, tint and horn works. Nothing about door handles.

I already have the audio kind of done. Anyone who does SPL knows that it is never finished lol. Here are a few pics

Sub: RD HW 15"
Sub amps: 2 RD1750.1 strapped @ 1 ohm
Components: Boston Z6s
Component amp: Kicker 350.4 (running active now)
HU: Pioneer 880

Right now, this current setup is doing 151.x outlaw on the TL. Pretty loud lol.

Works looks good but I think you should have found a paint scheme that flowed with the body of the car a little better rather than draw a straight line like that.

It isn't a straight line. The pictures just make it look weird like that.

I'll post some pics up after i clean it Tuesday or so.

Keep postin pics of the door glassing. I'm thinking about experimenting with mine at some point. What's the purpose of drilling all the holes?

the holes help the resin/glass bond to the door better because you can get it in there and like sandwich the door plastic in between FG layers.. otherwise FG doesn't bond well with plastic.

Yeah, Clutch is right.
Today I fixed all my imperfections in the front doors. Tomorrow I'm gonna put another layer over the holes I shaved for strength. Also I am going to run some more wire for my switches. More pics to come.

Also, I'm ordering some replacement factory carpet, some eDead, and some flashing for my doors so I can deaden them. Should be fun.

I'm also considering getting a pair of Otto-R racing seats. Anyone have any experience with them? I found a set of blue/black ones for $230 shipped
