Can a P0442 cause a P0172?

My SES light came on last night for the 2 codes mentioned in the title of this thread.

Out in Lansing I had to replace my TPS and in the process I broke the Canister Purge Valve Solenoid. I sometimes smell gas fumes but no too bad. I "rigged" it with a rubber hose but the snout on the unit is broken off inside the tubing, Tubing probably has to be replaced too.

Anyway the P0442 code (small EVAP leak) was tripped and the other code in there was P0172 (O2 Sensor detects too rich) Also my WB A/F gauge reads 17.0, then I smell the fumes while driving. It's gotten better since I rigged it, but the hose is very loose and probably fell off.

I know I need to replace it. Going to take it off and over to Advance Auto, but could this trigger a P0172 as well? What about the tubing? Dealer run?

Id say for the tubing your better off going to the dealer or a yard to get the peice you need because the evap system in our cars is so tempremental that it will detect leaks as small as thousanths of an inch in diameter.

No, going by the service manual your P0172 must've came before the P0442. Although a big part of the P0172 code is determined with the purge on.

Having a fuel leak, the 02 sensor is going to try and compensate for the leak, example, really rich. If you smell fuel, you have a leak. Replace that valve as soon as you can, reset the codes and fuel trim, then see how she does.

OK

I'll replace the valve on Wednesday, going to have a heat index of 102 here tomorrow, and I'm not working in that heat
