Cant exactly speak for the Alero as ive never looked into how the cluster gets its data, but on the Cobalt, and I think most never GM cars, the Cluster is fed from the BCM, thats how it gets the DIC and all readings, I was able to swap in a 140MPH cluster from an SS right into my car without issue, mileage calibration (old cluster was 120MPH) was perfect.
Edit:So if the Alero is anything like the Balt in that reguard, theres really no chance of it being compatible without some major rewiring/BCM work, not worth it.
