while i still think that the cat is an issue my fuel pump is no longer working. I was wondering if it can be replaced with a universal one or if i have to get the $250 one

Salvage yard for 75 bucks man. Find a fairly low mileage write off in the yard and grab it! Save yourself a bunch of cash....
A bit of info on fuel pumps. If you just grab a used one do not try to test it before you put it in. The only way to test it is to submerge it in fuel. Pretty risky connecting leads to the pump to test it if you catch my drift...lol This is why I say find the write off with low miles. You know it was running right to the point it was hit! lol

make sure u have power to and from the fuel pump fuse. If u do then jump the relay for the fuel pump. If that doesnt start it atleast make sure u have power to the fuel pump. Either way ur goling to have to drop the tank. And if u buy new... U know it will be a good part plus you will have a warentee. Something to think about.

something else i thought of... Just to verify if the pumps bad: have a friend crank the engine over while u take a rubber mallot and hit the bottom of the tank (about in the center). Dont try to put holes in it but a little more then a love tap. if she starts up for attempts to run then its the pump. And dont forget to replace ur fuel filter when u do the pump!

the pump was the whole issue...right before it died it was leaning out which is what made me think it was the cat

I definitely couldn't agree more. I bought a used aftermarket pump for my Mustang and it literally lasted 2 mins. Not even long enough for the car to idle down. I was pretty pissed, trying to save a buck. Some things you just can't buy used.
