Transmission Computer Reset???
Does anybody know if unhooking battery resets the transmission computer? Mine has started to slip a bit after I let the battery go dead on me by leaving the door open too long and dome light killed it. Since recharging it the tranny seems to be slipping when it shifts. Any ideas? Thanks all.

Pull both - and + leads from battery. Hold them together for 30 seconds and then reconnect

it will arc off one another and weld them together or more technically tack them together...Should be able to just disconnect the battery for 3-5 minutes and it should reset everything.

Wonder where the idea to touch the cables together would reset the computer came from?

If there's no battery in the system, what do you think connecting both leads together will do? It will complete the circuit and any leftover energy in the system will be used up. It's to completely drain the power from everything to be sure.
It's not going to weld anything.
And it's not going to fix your transmission problem either.

Any suggestions on why the tranny started slipping after the battery died?

coincidence
there's really nothing that would cause that from your battery draining

Yup, Ion has it right. Nothing will weld together...lol It will clear any stored codes though. The PCM can hold a reserve charge for far longer than just a few mins... even with the battery completely removed

Man-o-man! I'm just paranoid doing that. Don't want to fry something. Especially considering the fact that I may be selling it real soon. Have you ever done that before or anybody else with success?

i have to add... because a lot of us have secondary batteries or caps for stereo equipment.... un hook them batteries too. depending on how they are wires up, they may leave the care "energized" without you knowing. which may cause arching of the battery terminals or if you leave your main battery unhooked, may not clear the ecms stored memory.

When is it slipping? When as in how much throttle are you giving it? Is it slipping even when your at 100% throttle? I know my 2nd gear was slipping a bit and all i did was replace my transmission fluid.

Slips mainly between 1st and 2nd and sometimes 2nd and 3rd. I do think I'm about due tranny fluid change time. I'd say the slip seems to be mainly when around 30-40% throttleish.
