If your low tire pressure light comes on, check that your tires are all filled with the proper tire pressure that is indicated on the sidewall of the tire. After that, your Low Tire Pressure Light will not go out on its own. It must be reset manually. To reset the system, turn the ignition switch to ON. The RESET button is located inside of the driver's side fuse panel. Press and release the RESET button.

The CHANGE OIL light will begin to flash. Press and release the RESET button again. The CHANGE OIL light will go off, and the LOW TIRE PRESSURE light will start flashing. When the LOW TIRE PRESSURE light is flashing, press and hold the RESET button until the chime sounds.

Turn the car OFF, and replace the fuse panel cover. Now that it has been reset, the car will learn the correct wheel speed readings for the properly inflated tires. If one tire goes 12psi below the other tires, this is when the car sets off the LOW TIRE PRESSURE light. It measures the speeds at which each wheel turns, and when there is a specified speed difference in one wheel's speed, the computer reacts accordingly.

It might be a good idea to reset this system when you get new tires put on, or replace a tire, or rotate them. This way, it will eliminate the possibility of getting a false alarm.

How does the computer know when to turn on the check tire pressure light?...
Quote:
The computer learns what the tire rotation is at different speeds in like the first 50 miles or so from the ABS computer. after it learns, it monitors those values. Once the rotation speed goes above the determined values, due to the improperly inflated tire spinning faster then the rest for a given speed, it will set off the idiot light.
