security light question.
So, I was driving home from work tonight and my security light came on.... Does this mean anything???? the car ran fine and never died or anything.... So I'm kinda confused. When I got home, I shut the car off then started it back up, and the light is off....

Had the same thing... then after a while it wouldn't start once in a while.. then it was every other time... I ordered a new ignition cylinder from gmpartsdirect.com and had the dealership key and install it....
Use search... there should be several topics... what's bad is either the cylinder or the passlock sensor... stupid cars

My security light came one like two times since i have the car. On the highway one time and at start the other. Shut it and it went away, never stall of anything.

I was having the same problem. It happened to me a week ago but i didn't think anything of it till now. And my mechanic mentioned that my shaky car could be fixed by a new ignition wire. So is the ignition wire going bad and i should replace it to prevent it from having the security light go on?

Yeah... mine always did that if I remote started the car, hit the brake pedal, and then started it again. Or if I let the car run on ACC for a while and then started it. I think it had something to do with the passlock bypass the shop used. That's why I was asking bout the remote start.

I know this is an older thread but it seemed the appropriate place for this. My Ho used to do the random security light turning on thing and go away. Then it had a passlock issue, so I just did the 10 minute fix all good. Then it started doing that about once a month. Then it did it about 6-8 times one week. Then my car just gave up and surendered. Hasn't had a problem starting for the past month starting. But the security light is now always on when the car is on. I've been too busy lately to worry about it and too poor with chistmas as stuff comming up. But I'm guessing the passlock system has just up and died and will take any key. I keep meaning to try this since I have a cheap no resistor copy of the key. But since my car is parked in a secure federal facility I'm really worried about it getting stolen.

Hey, I got a remote start (it hasn't worked since I bought the car) on my car and every once and a while the security light will come on. How do I uninstall a remote start.

Lol ironically I have no clue. Been over a year since I first started having the problem. And for some reason I never got around to asking if I get a new ignition cylinder a) is it hard to put in and b) do they need anything complicated to install or just plug and pray?
My Alero has pretty much given up on fighting me. I've only had it not start once in last 6 months. I was just concerned it I try the workaround with a bad part I'll get a bad reading off the yellow wire. Idiot light has been on probably over a year, when do I need to replace that it's cheaper?
