So after reading that i have this to ask. do you guys think the 3500 intake swap is worth it? im not planning on forced induction or anything. would i just be better off porting and polishing 3400 intakes?

The heads are necessary if you want the 3500 LIM too, it won't work with 3400 heads. But a 3500 plenum will work with a 3400 lim

Look at the heads the stock 3500 flows less cfms than most ported 3400 heads... Plus you could put the money that you would put into the heads into some lsx valve springs and retainers.

Springs and retainers are cheap. Honestly, unless a cam is in your plans, changing springs and retainers isn't really necessary.
A good set of ported 3500 heads is better than a good set of ported 3400 heads. Flow is one part of a quality set of heads; it's not the only consideration.
I've had 2 sets of ported 3400 heads - one good, one great. In the works is a set of killer ported 3500 heads.

If your going to buy ported 3400 heads then why not just buy ported 3500 heads instead? I don't think the OP posted anything about buying heads or having his current ones ported at all...but I may have missed something seeing as I'm on my phone.

Because Buying 3500 heads also means buying a swap kit

No it doesn't. The 3500 heads and lower only require 3500 intake gaskets and a CTS extension with the stock 3500 CTS. Keep the 3400 upper, fuel rail, regulator, and injectors. 8mm Rockers will also be needed if you don't have a 2003 and newer motor (some 2002 as well).
