This website has a pretty good breakdown of your VIN # and what each number/letter means.
http://www.answers.com/topic/list-of-gm-vin-codes
but in general, if you have hubcaps you most likely have a GX...

It's the 5th digit of your VIN.
K = GX
L = GL
F = GLS

Looking at that pic I think you have a GX or GL1 based on the rims.

easy way to know if you have a GX is that they are the only ones with crank windows.

GL has 2 letters, GLS has 3 letters?
This is from a 2000 review of the Alero's... hope it helps:
"Base GX Aleros and GL 1 and 2 models use a dual camshaft 4-cylinder engine. GL3 models and the top-line GLS get a 3.4-liter V6. The new manual transmission, a 5-speed supplied by the German manufacturer Getrag, is standard on GX and GL1 models. Automatic transmission is optional on those and standard on other Aleros. All come with antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and traction control, and all but GXs have a tire-pressure monitor.
Three child-seat anchors on the rear parcel shelf are new for 2000. And a new Sport option package for GLs includes the firmer performance suspension previously reserved for the GLS; it includes 16-inch alloy wheels (versus steel 15s) and wider performance tires. Finally, gold-color exterior badges are a new option."

Basically the most noticable differences aer GLS has leather, 16" wheels, and Monsoon sound.

I had that... underneath you car, just past the cat, ther is a metal panel that comes around that, I found mine was loose, so I bent it a bit where it was rubbing, and well, 2 years without that sound...

Lithuania? Nice, not to far from my old stomping grounds. Yeah, in reference to that problem if it keeps up, let me know (the forum), as I'm sure we can find an answer for you.

It could be something as simple as something's not lubricated properly. My grandpas gets that problem every so often

I had the infernal squeak for about 3 months or so and it progressively got worse. Its like Eh Nigma said, it has something to do with the plates around the cat. Mine was loose ever so slightly, and got worse when the exhaust got put on. A little tightening and I havent heard it since.

They did make leather kits for the cars.
Do you have crank windows?
Do you have a 4-cylinder?
