what to look for
http://www.nextechclassifieds.com/listings/view/350395/
My friend who came with me to the Alero show this summer is looking at this...anything in particular to look out for...the biggest questions have to do with the motor, i know the ecotec pretty well and have gained a fair amount of knowledge on the 3400, I don't feel that I have learned much about the 2.4 though

Does it sound like it's going to blow up? If not your ok. Look for leaking head gasket/valve cover. If you have access to it do a compression test. I will never buy a motor without doing one

there are others on the list to look at but this is first because it seems to be the best deal and it is closest to them...i believe all the others are 3400 or ecotec so i have a better concept of them

Nope, Keep the oil changed and ""full"" and keep an eye on the water pump (You don't want coolant in the oil do you?), and water outlet. My 2.4 is at 130k and still gets rev to 5500 at lease one a day. My 01 grand am had a hard life since i got it at 32k.
It has way less things to go wrong, unlike the 3400. But you can fix everything on the side of the road on a 3400 with a $9 socket set.
