led guage and glowing needle troubleshooting
Attachment 6989
im having some issues and im not quite sure about them and i dont get why its doing it,
1.the led at the top of the tach doesn't seem to turn on and get bright for a few minutes
2. the needle for the speed isnt as bright as the rest, it starts on dim, and does get brighter but you can see a difference.
3.the temp gauge needle doesn't have the red led or what ever attached to it, when the motor gets warm it moves over it and looks OK but you can see a large glow from like the head of the led
4. the gas gauge of the cluster is way off, when full it was almost straight up, and yesterday i filled the car, it took 9 gallons and the needle was only just under half a tank

4)the gas gauge is easy. fill the tank, pop the needle off, and put it at full... repeatedly adjust until its accurate.
3) Its a design flaw that he made when he did the mod. We learned a valuable lesson.
2) starts dim? you mean when the car is ON then brighter when the car is started, or is your frame of reference always done while the car is running? Leds aren't like halogen bulbs. The brightness varies depending on voltage. All leds will be brigher when the car is running.
1) Could be a loose contact. Either tear it apart and look/fix it, or just learn to live with it.

Can anyone give me a quick run through on how this is done? I have four 3mm white LEDs sitting here but I haven't been able to find a good guide that explains how to install them into the needles.

2.no when the car is running its definently not as bright as the others for about 5 minutes then it gets brighter but not quite as bright
3. did you find a way of fixing it
1. i will check
4, i just noticed my old gauges have a bar at the top too, the new one doesnt, could that have thrown it off when i filled my tank?

2) bad connetion on the power going TO the led, or at the lead on the led itself.
3) yes, you won't like the answer
4) no, you just need to pull the needle off and readjust it. I attempted this mod, and had to fix my gas gauge like 3 times.
-----
atmos, search for yaleroynot and his thread on "what to do with 100 leds" he had a partial how to within the thread.

i don't think he glued anything. most likely, he drilled the holes at the right size, and just seated them properly (and tightly) into place.
the problem he mounted all the gauges on a 6-9-12 oclock arrangement, instead of the speedo/tach being 9-12-3. So the color won't be an even spread on the two middle needles.

just gonna have to live with that. its a downside to the way the led was mounted.

Mine aren't perfect either, When my gas gauge is full, that needle is a bit dimmer.
When I turn the dimmer down the temp and gas dim all the way to very little lit, the tach and speed go out.
I didn't install them myself. I was a noob back then, I had mine done in 2001

ok im just gonna focus on getting the speedometer right and the gas guage, i noticed with the aid of the gps that at 51 im actually doing 55,
this is wierd to me because i though 225/50/16 was actually minutely smaller then the old tire size
on the way to charlotte it showed me doing 75 when my gauges said 71, so it was closer but still off
