Igniction switch

How do i replace my ignition switch? Or is this something I should let a professional do??

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the left sound insulator.
Remove the ignition switch trim ring. Pry outward with a flat-bladed tool.
Remove the accessory trim plate.
Remove the upper steering column cover. Pry outward with a flat-bladed tool.
Remove the instrument cluster trim plate.
Remove the instrument panel cluster.
Remove the ignition switch bolts.
Disconnect the electrical connectors .
Disconnect the ignition lock cable from the ignition switch
Remove the ignition switch from the vehicle.
Insert the key into the ignition switch cylinder. Rotate the key to the RUN position.
Press the cylinder release plunger, located at the 4 o'clock position on the ignition switch
Use the key in order to pull the cylinder from the ignition switch

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Connect the ignition lock cable to the ignition switch
Install the ignition switch
Connect the electrical connectors
Install the ignition switch bolts.
Install the instrument panel cluster.
Install the instrument cluster trim plate.
Install the upper steering column cover. Ensure unit locks into place.
Install the accessory trim plate.
Install the ignition switch trim ring. Ensure unit locks into place.
Install the left sound insulator.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Reprogram the Body Control Module (BCM) .


Pays 2 hours so it would be $208 labor at the shop I work at plus est $150 for the part,plus hazor materials, and shop supplies so probably around $380 at this shop I would do it yourself

and once again, thank you so much for the steps! Worked perfectly, although I was a little confused on the left sound insulator... Had no idea what you were talking about. What I did was remove the radio trim and removed the radio's screws (so I could move the radio out of the way. One of the bolts that holds the ignition assembly is right beside the radio, and it is a little hard to get to with the radio there in the way.

Right now, I'm sitting in the car waiting for the security light to go off, and see how it goes.

why didnt you just bypass passlock using a resistor?, all the paslock system does is cause major headaches, and prevents you from steeling your own car. Its just going to create more frustration down the road.

1. What is the left sound insulator?
2. How do you reprogram the BCM?

The sound insulator is the black panel under the dash above the footwell area.

As for reprogramming the BCM, I think all you have to do is the passlock relearn (the 10 minute thing). It can be forced instantly with a Tech 2 though.

there is a thick wire that connects to the ignition cylinder.
when that is plugged in, i can move my key from side to side smoothly and it turns all the way to the left (all the way off)
when its not plugged in, i have to force the key in and it does not turn all the way to the left (it stops at the spot where your battery is still on)

does anybody know why this is happening?
