you can here the fuel pump. Turn the key to the on position and if your pump is working you'll here a humming sound coming from the tank for about 5 seconds. Pfyc has a good how-to for changing the fuel filter.

that shat don't work. When my fuel pump was weak. it still made the noise, but when ya crank it over no fuel was coming out of the fuel rail.

TO CHECK FOR FUEL on the 3.4L. - goto the shradder valve on the fuel fuel next to the power steering pump. Undo the cap, then take a philip screwdriver and push on the valve. then have someone turn over the car.. you should have fuel coming out, if not your fuel pump is goner.

cost dealer price for a fuel pump is like 240 bucks. so retail is like 300.

Could be the Security system too. If you turn the key to "ON" pos. the security light should be solid. If it blinks reset the security system....lots easier than dropping the tank

My 2.4 wouldn't start alot. It was the ignition switch and the silenoid. $400 in parts and labor. Then again, mine wouldn't crank, so I don't know.

Sometimes the security light does not come on.

Easy test though. Put the key in the on position for 15min or so. Turn to off position and try starting again.

This can be caused by a crap ignition switch as mentioned by Alero440. I had mine replaced and the problem never occured again.

fuel pump is easy. mine was changed in my garage floor. drop it was easy. swap out pump.. then putting it back up .. I got 2 friends.. 1 on each side.. lifted up the tank, while i put the 2 straps and bolt on it. 30 min later total.. done.
