2000 alero door panel question

front drivers side window wont work now on my 2000 four door alero.
the motor works but something is broke inside, started to take door panel off and the screws behind the red reflector and the panel under the arm rest are square drive screws, I don't have that type tools.
anyone know what size driver I need for these screws ?

The broken part is probably a piece of plastic. For the front doors, you can just buy a new piece pf plastic. I am referring to both plastic pieces that commonly fail. One that attaches the glass part to the regulator, and another that is used by the window regulator itself.

The one for the window regulator (Window Guide):

The one that attaches to the glass piece (Door Glass Attaching Clips):

These should just be plain and simple phillips head srews (cross).
A pic of the screw head would help helping you out.

The rest of the door panel is clips. Just gently but firmly start lossening (pulling) them from the bottom (there is a recess to grap into) and work your way around to the top.
Then lift up and out -- whatch out for cables

Edit:
see here for how it looks underneath and what might be broken.

I have never seen square screws on an Alero before, they had to have been replaced by previous owner.

I'm the original owner and the door has never been apart.

I bought a set of 0 1 2 3 , it looks like probably the number 3 will fit.

i'll get back when I have time for a update.

weird not having Philips head screws

I'm not sure how to post pics here, I have a photo just can't post it.
The screws are not exactly square but not Phillips.
But a flat tip screw driver works better .
I checked the white clips and they are all intact.
The motor is definitely working but not pulling the window.
I can't pull the window up by hand unless I push the button and the motor makes a loud growling noise and then I CAN move the window by hand.
At that point by hand if I pull the window up It makes a grinding noise like a stripped gear sound.
Any more ideas ?

first use any sort of pic host on the internet and embed the link here, the pic will show up like this

sounds like something is broken, if u buy a new window regulator u might as well buy it with new motor, they are not that much more expensive, but this way you get everything and less headache

Bummer I was hoping to not have to replace it all.

Note the broken plastic piece in the lower right in FalloutBoy's pic. That is not your problem. You either need to lube something in your regulator or need a whole new one. They are cheap enough off eBay. Normally I would not recommend cheap parts off eBay (I recommend not buying them) but a window regulator is an exception.

I got a regulator for $24 shipped. Real easy to swap out.

Probably off eBay if I had to guess. Like zzyzzx said they're pretty cheap on there. I picked one up for my Intrigue back when I had it for less than $50 with shipping.
