Need a new clutch...Ideas?
My clutch on my car is begining to slip. My car is a 2002 (ecotec obviously). I have found a few diferent clutches for sale for this transmission, but I haevn't really heard any feedback on any of the different kits.
The one the looks the best to me is the Centerforce clutch from here http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/pe...2&partid=1 37
Any other ones that any of you have tried?
Second question. How likely is it that i will have to replace the release bearing and "slave" cylinder? It's quite expensive

u got a 5 spd? If so Id take it to a GM dealership and have them do a transmission diagnostics machine to see whats really wrong with it, could be something simple, could be something bad u never know.

What is the mileage on your car? I'm still on the original clutch at 106,000 km (roughly 65000 miles).

A 5-speed is a box with a bunch of gears in it, and some oil. Nothing inside "slips". It grinds! If there's a slip, its the clutch.
make sure when you do it that you get your flywheel machined so the new clutch has a new surface to grip. What mods do you have to justify a centerforce clutch? If your car is stock, grab a stock clutch. Anything else is overkill.

The centerforce clutches for the FWD GM cars is about the same as stock anyways. They usually can't fit the weight setup inside the bell housing. I have had a Clutchmasters FX300 in my beretta on it's 2nd engine, 2nd flywheel and 3rd transmission now and it still holds up to the 3400 great. That's probably what i will put in the Alero when it needs one, as well as a lightweight Fidanza flywheel (which i also have on the 3400).
I've also heard good things about SPEC clutches.

Yeah a lot of the J-body guys are using Spec clutches and have had no complaints. I'd check them out.

I got 125,000km on mine and as far as I am aware It is the original clutch.

My car has 80,000 miles. About 3 months after I got it I used my warranty to have GM take out the transmisssion and replace the second gear syncro. It only had 29,000 miles on it when I got it and the previous owner had already wore flat spots on the rear tires (not from the alignment) and wore the front tires down pretty good as well (again, not from the alignment.) I didn't really look at the tires when I bought it . I think they thought that I was the one who beat on the car, but I'm past that stage of my life, and I don't drop the clutch and do burnounts with this car.
As for the clutch, I guess all I really want to do is get a good clutch that can handle a bit of spirited acceleration form time to time, and will be able to handle a few enigne mods. I don't really plan to make my car super fast or anything, but some day I'd like to get some form of boost and around 200-250 hp. Therefore a clutch that can handle that would be good.

Take a look a Spec clutches...link above ^^. And trust me, once you get a taste of boost, you'll keep wanting more
