Look for a post comcerning about the low/high beam fix

Ok as I have been trying to figure out a way to keep my low beams on when I turn on my highs so I'm not blind tempararily with my HID's. I have figured out a solution to get around it and not harm a single thing. It will all be plug and play. My main concern was the BCM being in the whole circuit but I figured out how to get arpund that with some relays and diodes.. Look for a whole post with pics and all on how and what to do here in the next few days. This is for anyone that has an icth of this pesky GM headlight design..

Wire the ALC relay wire (dark green) directly to the low beam (dark blue) wire at the headlight switch. That will make it do what you want when the lights are being controlled automatically...

This is in the case where when you turn on your highs and the lows cut off. I scaned over the wire schematic if I could do relay swaps and customization on anything. But the main controller between the low and high beams is the BCM. I have found a way around that without messing with any of the factory relays or causing problems with the BCM.

The high and low beams are controlled by the switch. The BCM merely gets notification on which is currently active.

The BCM DOES control the automatic lamp control relays, but those merely provide an alternate ground path for the switch to turn on the lights. So no matter what, if the headlight switch is in "AUTO" and it's dark out, the ALC relay signal (dark green) wire will be provided a ground signal to turn on the headlights. You jump that over to the low beam (dark blue) and then your low beams will be on regardless of the dimmer position.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. I am new to anything GM since I always had a ford but I learn something new everyday lol. I like plug and play type of things only because I've experianced too many nightmares from customizing OE wires... I will say my DRL's have a ghost in them cause they work when they want too.. Pure daylight they will turn on and I did the relay pin removal thing in another post but the DRL's still function but one high beam wont. I have found other mysterious ghost in this car and I'm having to deal with it lol.

Possible your DRL relay is in backwards?

This works great. everything still functions 100% normal but your low beams stay on when you flip your brights. I was a little worried with mine being an 02 (99-02 drls were on high beams, 03-04 drls on low beams) but there is no problem. Much easier then a bunch of splicing and wiring relays. I just used one of those fancy red connectors, like Cliff said, dark blue and dark green together and your good to go.

Question how to get the headlight switch out?

Is there a way to do this out at the headlights? How hard is the light switch to remove?

a pain. And yes, theres a write up on here for doing it running a bunch of wire and relays and junk. this is by far the best IMO
you dont need to take out the switch to get to this. Just pop off the top piece of the column, behind the wheel, and you'll be looking down right at where that shot is taken.

Papa, so you're saying that those wire taps jump the low/high signal with no issues?

I did this the relay way on my Grand Am, but am considering alternatives on my Camaro.

yep! I stuck that on there on several months ago... whenever I posted that I suppose, and no issues since. When the high beams come on, the low beams stay on as well. All other functionality is normal. I did this after disabling the DRL's as well, Being that mine is 99-02 they were on the high beams, I have never experimented with them enabled. Though in theory there should be no problem.

Do you have fog lights as well? I'm wondering if they stay on as well with this mod or not... normally when the highs go on the fogs go off...

While I don't know for certain, the fogs are powered by the low beam circuit from the switch, so they should stay on.
