Line-out converter question...

So I'm going to be installing a really basic system in my girlfriends '06 Cobalt...the problem is she wants to keep her stock HU...I've heard of line-out converters and from what I can tell they basically just tap into the wire to the rear speakers then convert it to RCA's correct? I'm wondering because I've got plenty of RCA connectors lying around that i could just splice in myself...I didn't know if the LOC had something special that made it different?

it does. and no, you can't just splice it.

Theres a huge difference in voltage from a speaker line to a line level input.

now, would you recommend a low pass filter along with this so it only plays the lows through the subs?

another thing i just thought of... how do I run a remote wire...will the stock HU have a connection for it?

probably not. Just splice a power line that is on, when the car is on and use that.

Personally, I put a switch on my remote line, so I have the option. Some songs have WAY too much bass...

There should be a low pass filter already integrated in the amp. In my system though I have a crossover as well for added filtering. So my answer would be no, but it couldn't hurt to add a crossover for added filtering...its not going to be a competition setup.
