What manwhore said...also as was said in the other thread you can get hp tuners and learn how to use it...if you know what you are doing ou can get some gain out of that, however I would do what he said first and then go hp tuners, tuning from stock where you would be able to tune it to experience some gain I don't think it would be as much as from those, and depending on prices in your area it may not cost much more to do those upgrades than it would to buy hp tuners

Judging from his post he doesn't know too much about cars. He's asking what he can do for more power....if he doesn't know that then i don't think he should be touching HP tuners.

Then isn't it our job as the A-mod community to teach and help him?

True. BUT it is pretty complicated stuff....you really gotta read up on it and learn....it can't ALL be taught on here. If he wants to get into that more power to him but i think he's just looking for easier power adders. You guys act like anybody can just hop right on hptuners and tune their car. lol. Most people don't know about that stuff....and it takes A LOT of reading/research.
He wanted a chip....so why not just point him in the easier/cheaper direction? Tuned PCM from milzy. Instead of paying $400 for a tuning program he has no idea how to use. Jeez...

The fact is though that as I list that as an example I don't know how to use it and am not making an effort because I don't know if I will ever have the need to learn it. If I had access to it you can bet I would spend hours and hours learning how everything works...I do know that from what I understand that there are aspects of tuning the ecotec that can be a pain as compared to the others usually that doesn't occur until forced induction but still
As it stands I think that I am starting to hear a little noise from the bottom end of the motor not only do I hear a minor knocking noise that might be able to be attributed to the fuel injectors but I hear a slight scraping sound about every 30-40 sec at idle. If the motor in this one dies then it becomes time for a different alero that doesn't need almost everything done

I have a whole exhaust system for sale.
Took bad you live so far away. I can ship the headers easily but now the downpipe with the high flow cat. Would be willing to look into shipping for the pacesetter dual outlet muffler if interested. Ill give you an awesome deal.

Well, the EASIEST way would be to jack it up - about 12 foot would be enough, I think - and run a new vehicle under it *griins*
As I suggested in the other thread, I'd start with Banish's book on tuning. Read it, study it. It goes into quite a bit of detail as to why things are done the way they are.
After that, do remember that one thing the ECU will do is ... try to return performance to baseline! So until you CAN tune it, or buy a tune for it, you can't do much that won't either be countermanded by the ECU, or worse, you can force it into a limp mode where it runs so much worse than what you had, it's not even funny.
These cars nowadays are NOT like the ones I cut my teeth on - six slugs in a line, a one or two barrel carburator (I had a trick manifold that took a Weber 2-barrel on my 1963 Chevy with the 250CID straight six .. a PROGRESSIVE 2-barrel, for those that catch that *grins* ), so to do much besides toss money at it, you've got to be able to alter the tuning or programming the ECU uses.
Oh, changes do some good ... but it's like getting a 50% pay raise and seeing 70% of that eaten up in charges, fees, dues, and taxes ... Be better to take 50% more home than 15%, innit? *grins*

mine is drivers side unfortunately and the sound is around the bottom end, no pulleys over there, and even though I had the entire timing system about 5k ago I almost think I might be hearing some issues with it again, so next weekend I may end up going back to where it was done and seeing what is up, I will probably stethoscope it for the scrape sound though because I can barely hear it under the hood, but I can hear it more in the car when all the other crap is deadened out which I find strange

I would say just maintain your car well will already give you a better(more like back to mint condition atleast) gas milage plus original performance that your car lose over the years

Intake and exhaust helps a lot. tuning it up, pending on miles, could do wonders as well!!
Could go with lighter rims as well. Doesn't add HP, does save weight
