CAI question

A couple of questions about a cold air intake.
My wife just upgraded hers and so I though I might try and fit the old one in my Alero. So question number one is would the CAI from Acura 1.6EL fit the Alero ? Yes or no?
Anyway second, I was talking to my friend at work today, he's into engine work a lot, and he told me that there is no point to run a pipe for a CAI for the Alero. He told me to pretty much just remove the old, stock filter, air box and put the new, cone filter at the end of the stock air pipe. Makes me wonder if that is actualy gonna work as a CAI....need help lol please.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I found some cheap one on eBay, will obviously buy a quality filter though. 3.4 V6 is the engine.

Yeap, that will most likely be my combo.

One more question. He told me to remove the stock filter, leave the box open, and rev the engine. He said that this will be what I will hear with the CAI installed... well that true too ? Cause if so it doesn't sound any different to me.
Sorry for all the noob questions. I'm not very familiar with intakes.

Any car on the road will beifit from getting more air flow. Engines are basicly large air pumps. The more air getting in, the better the fuel mixiture. So your coworker is somebody that thinks your car is a POS and shouldn't be on the same road with his Honda Civic / Ford Mustang / or big time muscle car.

You COULD do what he said, but there's not really much of a point to that. The rubber acoordian piece is very restrictive and WILL take away any postive to the cone filter.

I run a WAI on the street and a CAI on the track. You can ask Mitch (Daytona) my car ran 1/2 second faster with the CAI over the WAI. Plus I run my CAI with the fender liner and fog light both out of the car.

The sound will change a little bit. You may notice it a lilttle bit when the weather gets colder. I personally don't like CAI's because I fear water suckage and road debis, this includes road salt in the winter time.

It's be beaten to death on here about which is better, CAI or WAI. WAI will give you a bit more torque over the CAI, and the CAI will give you a bit more HP.

Slicone Couplers, piping, and your set. Yes it will be a good upgrade for the car. Throw an exhaust on there later and you'll be set. The car's breathing better, it's got to emit better too

Alright, thanks a lot for a detailed explanation. What do you mean that with CAI you can suck in stuff to the engine ? I though filters are supposed to prevent that from happening. Here in Canada we get lots, and I mean lots, of road salt so I am kinda worried about that now. However with the current low temperatures, and soon to be freezing weather, it should sound nice and mean.
As for exhaust the only modification I am planning to do, is a nice flowmaster muffler.
My coworker must have confused something, or he was just trying to sound like he knows what to do.. or maybe he does think the Alero is a POS since he has a 330Ci...
