Headlights oh the horror

OK everyone. I was putting in my new bulbs today, the same ones my dad has in his car. His are blue as hell and look like HIDs infact i thought i was looking at a car commin tward me with HIDs untill it passed and i realived it was my father. OK anyways, so i get the same ones and put them in mine, and when i turn them on they are white at best, but i noticed it wasntt he bulb it was my headlight lenses. There not yellowing they look like they have tiny little fine cracks in them, anf there is somthing that is like chippin and scraching off like they ahve been clear coated before(which i doubt.) Anyone know how to fix this without new lenses?

You have a 99 with original headlights It's very possible just old plastic that has been hot and cold on and off. I would say easiest would be replace the housing but cheapest might be a polish.

wet sand'em down with 2000 grit sand paper and buff'em up with lens polish and clear coat. worked really well for me

yea the headlight covers will always have hairline cracks in them. New or used. Thats how the facts of heat/cold as AGT said w/ plastics. You cant see them on mine cept whenever the headlights are on at night. Normal.. same w/ any other car.

Yeah, mine are like that also. I've polished them a few times and it's not noticable unless you look at them at just the right angle.

i honestly have never noticed on my car but ya i can easily believe that since it gets from 40*C in summer and down to a frigid -40*C in winter with the wind chill of -60*C

Winchill would have no effect whatsoever on them. All it would do is remove heat faster, it would NOT make the lens any colder than the outside temperature.

I got the yellow off of mine with toothpaste

seems kinda weird scrubbing a headlight with toothpaste but it works

unfortunately, it won't get the cracks out so you'd hafta do this if you really wanna get them looking like new

they also sell kits at places like autozone and walmart that work pretty well
