Wheel clicking
Its not the wheel itself, but i noticed when i was turning my steering wheel to the far left (about as far as it went) just before the end, it sounded like something in the front driver's side was clicking. then it did it again, some on the way back...
... it made the noise in the same location (of the turn) so if it was on the very end of being able to turn the wheel left, it made it for a short period, as i started turning it back.
this the bearing plate issue (can't imagine it would be for steering) or are my cv's going?

could be the CVs but you turn a brand new GM steering too far one direction I have heard the steering fluid pump feedback

I would agree with you and agt in regards to the cv joint, as long as the frequency of the clicking sound occurs in direct proportion to the speed that the wheels are turning.

it seemed to. the clicking wasn't very fast at all.
how laborious is changing a cv??

Depends on if you have access to a shop with a lift and air tools or not.

jack/jack stands and no air tools.
i can easily change a wheel bearing.. so getting to that point isn't too difficult for me.

You might need an air hammer to get the cv splines out of the spindle. The jack stands would be okay. I did mine one side at a time with a hydraulic jack. Access to some air tools will make the work a lot easier if you can get em.

my car does the same thing.. someone told me it has something to do with the strut plate or whatever the hell-
I think my CV axels are fixin to take a big hairy dump.

You can look at your CV boots and tell if they have split. You will see a dark green to black color grease all over the place if they have.

trust me.. my boots are shot and there is grease all over the axels and everything that surrounds them. wtb CV axels lol

Get the one's from autozone that are rebuilds. Just as good.
Honestly the location and lack of protection is the reason that the boots split so easily.

hmm... i'll have to check around to see if i know someone whose done them, so i have an experienced hand around to help.
definitely don't have air tools.... hopefully i'll find another substitute instead of needing them.
and mine is only slight for the time being, so hopefully it can hold out for a while yet.
if its not CV, what are the other possibilities?

im sure it can be done without air tools.. my cousin took his entire motor / tranny / cv axels / struts and springs out with average tools..

a low clunk that you feel a little too or just a click? if a clunk it could be a seized strut tower bearing (the spring rotates on it, if it is seized the spring jumps) or actually a broken spring binding on itself (like mine was)

it kinda does both.. clicks while turning, and when the wheels are locked one direction (like backing up into a tight spot) and the wheels start to turn the other way, it POPS really loud, which can be felt and heard clearly..
yours do the same cherry?

mine just clicks at the extreme. (didn't test the other side yet) but its not a permanent thing either. i tried it again today and it was quiet the whole time.
but i was on flat ground today, and the first time i was on a slight downhill slope...

Generally when you hear a clicking only while rolling and turning, its one of your transaxle joints.

that its starting to go and needs to be replaced.
On my Dynasty, the boot of the transaxle joint cracked and a rock entered in it and it was making a weird clicking sound. I'd first check both Joints and start from there.
