So I was calling around for some new tires and after giving the tire size to the two places I called they told me I had the performance Alero? being a semi newbie I've never heard of this. What does this mean? just that the tire size and wheels are bigger (16" instead of 15"'s)? anyone?

well the GX or base Model came with 15 inch steel wheels and all the other models come with 16 inch alloy wheels. I wouldn't call them performance, but if you have the 16 inch wheels I guess you could consider your car the sportier model since it probably has the V6.

I got the GLS with 16s
It is a "Performance" package with the bigger wheels and the suspension, however the springs and sturts are the same on all Aleros. The OEM 16" tires are performance tires of some sort, but they suck anyway

Nothing, but it says on the window sticker "Perfomance suspension package" but only on the GLS's  It's just a gimmick

The only thing you they really need to know thought is the rim size if its a 15 or a 16 inch
Their is a different few strut and spring package for our cars. I just found this out well looking up OEM parts for a project in my estimating class. The only thing you they really need to know thought is the rim size.
Sorry to jake this thread for a post or two. But all aftermarket Struts are the same but GM has three different set ups that came on the cars 99 (GM# 22064731)came all the cars except for the sport package (GM# 22064770)
00-04 all cars with the 2.4/2.2 came with sport package (GM# 22064770) and the 3.4 aleros came with (GM# 22064788) Just thought you all might like to know. Same thing with the control arms two different ones.

So is there any ride height difference between the regular and the "sport" suspensions? My wife's 02 GLS has the sport package and I'm thinking of putting Eibach's on it, but would it still be lowered 1" up front and 1.5" in the back, or would the difference be less?

if there is any difference (which i doubt) it is minimal.
the spring makes the car lower, not the strut. since you are changing the spring then yes you will get that result, if not a little more after they settle.

Wrong.
15 Inch rims are also on GL and an option on the GL2. However the GL2's (and GL3's) probably got the 16 inche ones. GLS had polsihed rims 16 inch standard. I think the GX even has rims if it had the "Sports" package

Heh, Redog....I think on the sport suspension, they tighten the strut tower mounts about 3 lbs tighter

i'm still under the belief that i have the "franken-alero"
its a GX with a V6. no special features of any kind, except the bigger engine.
i've never really compared my suspension to others (besides lowered ones) so i have no clue if i'm "sport" or not.
but i do have the "performance" tires. and redog was right... they blow... ...big nasty chunks.

i have the gl2, and it has sport suspension and 16 inch painted alloy rims. im curious of the actual differences between the ride height, if any.

Sport package got you slightly stiffer springs and a little thicker swaybar, plus the bigger wheels, different tires and all that jazz. Ride height was 5.0" on all Aleros.

That is correct. The GX sports package came with a spoiler and 15 inch alloy wheels.
