yea it will effect the engine. probably most noticably at idle. have you driven the car with it broken? how/what did it do?

Im not real sure when i broke it but i drove it all day today.....what is its purpose....

considering its placement i would venture to guess it has to do with the function of the throttle body.

its a vacuum line, i'll try to find out what its for. it needs to be repaired, your pcm cant compinsate for the extra air so the system is going to run lean.

It really depends on what it controls.
If it's for the a/c the a/c and the defroster will not work too well, and the knobs direction will be all screwed up (Put it at your feet and it's blowing out of the reg vents)
If it's for the TB. The car may take a while to warm up in cold weather, and could stall out. 9.5 time out of 10, it will restart with no problem.
Get it fixed, vacuum leaks are not a good thing
