Love those guys! Their mods have inspired a few here and there on my Rover and their commentary is always priceless...lol

Fans cannot simulate the cool constantly changing air of driving outdoors.
Colder air = denser air = more air. Indoors the temperature difference will be minimal open throttle body versus CAI. Outdoors it could be drastic.
I would run a cold air intake on my turbo if I had room, but I'm forced to suck in the air behind the engine. Luckily I have an intercooler.

They said that you would need a 10 percent gain for it to be noticeable.

Uh, yeah, that's why I quoted them saying it. Then I understated what the effect would be.
I would be willing to bet I could pick out a 6 per cent gain almost every time, IF it were possible to set up a repeatable, "blind" acceleration test, minus hot-soaking....
What they don't tell you is the actual charge temp change in the upper intake manifold versus ambient temp just behind the filter, and whether the ECT also changed, and is the test just as valid at 60, 80, or 100 degrees (where heat-soaking swamps out the other effects). Lots of variables.
edit-- Oh, I see what you mean, the way they said it, implies less than 10 percent, not noticable, 10.1 barely noticed, which is entirely arbitrary and contrary to experience

I know the difference in running a CAI with fog light and fender liner removed is a 1/2 second gain in the 1/4 vs WAI with removed headlight.
Removed headlight v not removed using WAI is about .1 in the 1/4

Yeah but notice that the CAI did increase the HP by almost 8, so I'm happy with that

They would probably see a little more gain replacing the entire intake system instead of just the filter on the end. Especially with are cars removing all those restrictions in between the TB and filter helps more then a simple filter change.

I personally notice that when it comes to CAI's the only thing that it really affects is the sound. I have a WAI on my Cutlass, and it makes my V6 sound somewhat muscular, but only when I floor it. On the Grand Am with the Ecotec, it sounded like a Honda with that thing on.
The Camaro's the only car I have with the stock system, and that's mainly because there's no real place to add a CAI. I did remove the silencer in between the filter and throttle body though.
