If you powershift in newer cars you will tear your transmission up.
The muncie m-22 rockcrusher is the original powershifting tranny.
Back to the downshifting debate, everyone drives different. Some think downshifting is stupid. I think just putting it in neutral and not downshift is stupid.

To each his own scott. I feel its easier to go to neutral coming to a stop. I just dont feel the need to down shift unless im coming up on a green arrow and im doing... 40 in 5th ill let it idle down in 5th clutch in, come into right turn (depinging on how fast im going into it) i will then rev match and put it in 2nd or 3rd and continue on my way.
But yes everyone is different

I tried the powershifting last night and it didn't feel good, in fact it felt like I was losing time vs the clutch, off gas, clutch method.
Auto it easier. Rev up motor to about 1000 or 1100 (in the Delta the Alero I go to 1000 or 1250 but 1000 seems to work better in that car). then off brake and on gas and cutting .030 lights
My WORST light a few weeks ago was a .238

Well, The stick in a station wagon is a hell of a lot different than one in a International 4900 single axle

I would have to agree with you. Once it is in neutral you are out of control of the vehicle and in most cases you have to use the brakes more.

An automatic is still the preferred transmission for drag racing.
Manual transmission is where it's at for road racing and autocross.

I think I remember way, way back when it was illegal to let your car coast downhill in neutral (to save gas?) . Could have been B.S. though

Letting ur car coast downhill in neutral will not save gas. (EFI cars provided)
letting ur car coast in gear (clutch disengaged) and above idle rpm on the other hand will cause fuel shutoff and hence save gas.
