It's been a few days, but on Saturday I met up with ate and Ryan.
They had scored a set of headlight covers for me and plasti-painted them.
It's amazing how something so simple can make such a profound difference in underhood appearance.
Thanks Nate and Ryan! It was great seeing you guys.

You as well matt!
I installed a set of TCE plenum spacers that I scored from matt while we hung out. They work great.

What material are you using? I'm really starting to like the look.

Nice B. Though its more of a mustang thing. And not 100% fond of the look. But your cars! I still like the cars either way.

The look varies a lot with the angle of the sun, the angle and distance viewed from the car, and the refraction of the glass. Those cars are out in the sun a lot, I needed to get some protection on them now, but there's still improvements that can be made. Every time I finish one I find things that could have been done better. Right now, I'm working with standard foamboard, researching more durable laminates. And now I think I have a way to eliminate the steps along the center. The foamboard tends to warp, so the cut and fit has to be perfect.

Well, my car has been at my TLM (trusted local mechanic) since Tuesday. .
I told him to replace the passenger-side axle (not the intermediate shaft) due to a torn CV boot, and adjust the parking brake actuators (my parking brake did not work too well - kinda important with a MT; I don't like leaving the car in gear when parked). Getting the parking brake sorted was no big deal. But....
Why replace the entire axle? The new axle comes with a warranty for $30 more, while a boot replacement would have no warranty.
Since my car's such a Frankenstein at this point, I told him the exact application that the axle is from (a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP with a 6-speed manual). After trying 4 different axles, they couldn't find one that fit right (the length was either a smidge too short or to long, or the splines didn't fit into the hub nicey-nice), so he sent the original axle to a CV specialist to precisely measure it and find a compatible replacement, or rebuild it.
Not able to find a replacement, he went about rebuilding it. A good thing too, since the tripot was apparently full of little shards of bearing material, so the axle would have eventually failed anyway. I hope to get the car back today.
So I'm wondering now if I should pull both axles this winter, and send them to the Driveshaft Shop for replication as a stronger unit?
Which also begs the question, since my car's such a hodgepodge of parts now, how much longer until my TLM refuses to work on it - especially since it's been tying up one of his racks since Tuesday afternoon???

I don't understand why the axles were not new on the tranny swap to begin with. Were they modded somehow to fit?
