So who else got this crappy recall fixed? this is what they did to my keys. I was totally expecting them to address the security issue, but nope. just another cheap patch.

correct. If anything were to ever happen insurance might not cover and what not if you dont have it fixed. It is a cheap patch, I only got one of mine done but its recorded its done at least. Its just the plastic insert and two small ring loops.

You guys can always buy the normal keys after the recall is done online if that's why you guys are avoiding the recall.

Good luck, it's tough but worth it. After this semester I'll be 5 classes from graduating with a BS in Computer Information technology and minors in Information Security and Business informatics.

The only keys I have are flat metal ones that a locksmith made before I bought the car, not sure this "fix" would even work on them. Also would cost me between 150 or 250 dollars from taking off work for a day.
If they were going to really fix the problem by replacing the defective parts, I would consider it worth it.

So if I really want to get this done , and I am not sure that I do, I can just show up to the dealer with my keys and the card and they will do the "fix" while I wait? I mean, if I 'm in the middle of a bicycle ride, I might stop by a dealer, but I would waste gas on a fix like this.

I had it done just so I didn't have to worry about the insurance shit. Then 4 months later my lock cylinder locked up and I had to replace the lock cylinder and switch. At least now the lame ass key is easy to tell apart from the ignition key

all I have is the ring, a house key, and a lightweight carabiner on my ignition key. and most always leave it in the ignition. I keep my door fob and other keys clipped to a belt loop.

I have a key with the plastic on it I use for the ignition when driving. I keep it in my watch pocket when not in use. I keep a all metal key that's on a key ring with other keys in case I lose the single key or lock myself out of the car.

I just called a local dealer, since I was going to go biking past a dealer this weekend. I was thinking all I needed was the car keys and the recall notice, but they said that if I want it done, I have to bring in the whole car. I'm not going to do that, when they only need the key. The excuse given was to verify the VIN, , the tag, and mileage. The VIN is on the recall notice. In so far as the tags and mileage, I don't see why they need that, and it's really none of their business.

That seems like a waste of time for you to have to take the entire car when they know its just the keys that need replaced. specially if you have the recall letter. Darn GM and their logic.
