on the track u more then likely wont suck in anything. people do it all the time. practice launching cuz that will be ur weak point. i used to hold rpm at 1200 and let go of brake when launching. tires wouldnt spin as much. and put shifter in 2nd gear so u can hold it out longer.

on my 2.4L, I rev up to about 2500, but 2500 might be a bit much for the V6. if you can get a few test runs in, test in between those rpm ranges. You might find 1200 will be good, or you might find something higher works well.

I typically hold it between 1000 and 1200. It does spin a bit, but nothing too much. Im not so sure i can actually get mine to rev to 2500. Ill give it a few test runs and see what happens. By tha way...when i rode with this guy the day he got tha car, he was reving tha hell out of it. I watched the tach go well past 6000. Wouldnt that be a waste of time because you are supposed to keep the rpm's in the max power range. If you keep going past that you are just losing power and actually losing time. Correct me if im wrong guys, but that is just my thought.

once you pass peak power, yes, you are wasting time, and causing unnecessary wear to the engine. That's why on autotragic transmissions, you won't hear the engine bouncing off the rev limiter when it's moving.
ideally, at the track, you want to rev as close to the power range as possible without losing a lot of traction. If you have stock tires, you might not want to rev that high.

240sx= 155hp 160 torque. They are lighter then the monster aleros we drive. Now I've been in a stock 240 and they are quick little cars off the line. they have a decent power curve too. I've never raced the 240 in my car so I can't say yea or nay whether you'll win. It also depends on the driver of the car. If the kid can drive and keep the back end from spinning he may have a chance, but if he sucks and just sits there an spins them, you may have a chance. Who knows.

How sure are you that he is stock is the question. The 96 240 has a crapload of parts for it that youd never notice without spending anything.
Trust me, kids dont go talking trash asking to race unless they've got something under the hood..Keep that in mind.
Just do it at the track so nobody gets hurt, arrested or anything else.

yeah you can't see the Tien Superdrifts that are on the project car. They don't lower it much, but they are awesome in cornering and such.

simple as this:
3400 N-body> 2.4L J-body > 2.4L N-body
the 2.4L 240SX should be somewhere between the 2.4L GM's.

stock vs stock, dude. our cars have the same engine and I'm pretty sure the same transmission (gearing) and they are lighter cars. I guarantee that if you drove your Alero and you drove a Z24 down the same track, you'll have a slightly faster time in the Z24. (this way, it eliminates differences in driver weight and skill) You're probably a better driver than the people you raced in their Z24's if they can't keep up.

I looked at the car the other day. It does have a full interior and i did make sure its an auto. He popped the hood and everything seemed stock: air box, manifold, exhaust, even the pulleys. He may have something hiding inside the motor, but i cant tell. All i know is the guy bought it from an older lady a week ago. As far as the driver skill...im nothing special, but this guy seems like a idiot. He claims to be a badass drifter. My first thought is that he is more likely to spin out of habbit, rather than think about what he is doing...which is drag racing.

you can't be a bad-ass drifter with an auto. lol Might accurately fishtail a couple turns here and there, but to be a bad-ass drifter you gotta have stick and be able to drift around pretty much any turn.

bad ass drifter eh? Tell him if he wants to be a bad ass drifter so bad he needs a better motor then the KA... It bogs down in 2nd gear doing figure eights. I think its kinda stupid having this debate whose better then who.
