Interior Paint

Hi, I've seen some pics of some peoples car and the interior (like the went and knobs were colored) are they painted? If so, what kind (best kind) and how'd ya'll so it? How long it took, etc.

I wanna do this, a friend suggested finger nail polish and I just...O.o. <_< Hehe, I'd do it too!
