It can be done. I use a ratchet and a short extention. If you have a tower brace, you'll need to remove it to get you hand back there, and to get the plug out.
I wrote a review on wires Accel Xtreme 9000 wires. I bought the ones for a Dodge Dakota 5.9L

Yea, it's a pain in the ass but it can be done with an extension and a spark plug socket. Last time i changed mine (while the engine was in the car) was prob like 4-5 years ago and it took me like 30-40 min to get the back ones done. After leaning over the engine that long my back was killing me NOT a fun job but worth it in the end. Also, make sure you put high temp never cease on the threads!

Considering what a PITA the upper radiator hose was lol...Although it did help when I purchased more tools than a pair of pliars, Channel Locks and a flat head screwdriver.

I support my weight right on the mainfold, at least for number 3. 1 and 5 I do from the side.
It's not hard, I changed mine in May, took 40 minutes to do all 6 and I was taking my time

How often do these plugs need to be regapped? I've still got my original plugs in at 70K miles. I am wondering if like on my previous cars (two Escorts) the gap grows over time. Probably not as much on this engine.

I would look at doing the plugs in 20K unless your car is sluggish. The original plugs seem to last for a while like the original batteries.
Check the front plugs to see their condition. If they lookm bad, replace them.
