Turbo setup off of Mclaren Grand Prix turbo

Hi, I'm new here but have been checking out threads on here for a while now. I have a 02 alero that was originally a 2.2 eco tech 5 speed car. I got a wrecked 03 alero 3400 car and put the engine in my 02 along with the wiring harness and pcm. The tranny is a munci 5 speed out of a 91 z24 cavalier. After struggling to get everything mounted for a while I'm pretty close to finishing the project. I have an 89 Mclaren turbo Grand Prix that I have no intention of ever putting back on the road so I'm wanting to take the turbo setup off and put it on the alero before I put it all back together. I don't know much about turbos, so I was hoping to get a little help here. I'm not trying to build a race car, just a quick everyday driver. That being said will the stock bottom end of the 3400 hold up at the standard boost of the Grand Prix. I've been told that the stock bottom end will handle 300hp, and I figure I will be at 260 at the very most. From what I understand I may have to upgrade the fuel pump and injectors, if so can I use the injectors from the Grand Prix? I know everything will have to be tuned and I'm assuming that mms would be able to do it seeing how everyone speaks so highly of them on here. Am I missing anything or is there anything else i need to know? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Running low boost is key. You will be fine to run 8-10 lbs of boost on the stock block with no real issues.

And you will need tuning software for that trans swap, and turbo setup.

Mms does do that tuning.

I don't know if I would have much use for a tuner for myself. This project is a little outside my norm, but I appreciate it though. Sorry about all the questions but I do have a few more. Will the stock 3400 injectors, pump and map sensor work with that setup? I've slap heard that I might have to change the maf sensor.

You'll need larger injectors as you'll need to be pumping in more fuel... I'd upgrade to either the 36lbs or 42lbs injectors... The stock pump should be ok; if it's original it might go anyways and when that happens you can upgrade top a walbro pump...
Mms can do a tune for you but withouthaving the car physically there it'll be a guessing game on the tune...
It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the tuning software that sleepy has as it will allow you to better monitor your car for any potential issues... There is a web forum dedicated to the tuning software that has unlimited resources and gurus to help you along the way...

Thanks, that's very helpful. I will take sleepys software into consideration. I wish I would've known a while ago I was gonna be doing this swap. I replaced the pump with a stock one about 6 months before I blew the Eco tech motor in the car. Go figure

nice another manual swap! FYI you could of saved yourself a lot of headache and used 95% of your eco 5spd parts for the swap with a 00-02 cav/fire 2.2 5spd Getrag F-23 trans lol

Yeah, I know the 2.2 non Eco tech would have been easier but I was told by multiple people depending on my engine mods that tranny probably wouldn't hold the power very well without changing the internals. I did use everything from the Eco tech setup. The only thing I really changed was the tranny. The axles and cables are all being used.

So after doing some research I've found that the 96-04 gtp's used 36lb injectors. The only problem is they are a little shorter than the 3400 injectors. People are saying you can grind down the rail where it bolts to the manifold, of get an adapter kit from wot tech. I'm not sure how much i like the idea of the grinding and I couldn't find anything on wot tech. Has anybody ever done this or have any pointers?

If you are using the TGP manifolds they will need some porting work to line up with the 3400 exhaust ports. Also the TGP turbo was too small for the 3.1l so you will want to keep the rpms lower than stock limits.

I am using pre '00 3400 rails on mine with the l67 injectors.

I'm only using the crossover pipe off the top. The manifolds are the stock 3400. When you say keep the rpm's lower than stock limits are you talking about the limits of the 3.1 or 3400? I'm not sure if it's that big of a difference between them if any. How much lower? Did you have to do any mods using the l67 injectors and pre 2000 rail?

The red line of the 3400. With the 3400 you are starting with 40HP more before adding boost. The 3.1 was rated at 205hp with the turbo. You will probably be fine with 5-8psi and it will probably start choking the 3400 around 5000rpm.

I did not have to mod any thing for the l67 injectors with the '99 and older fuel rail.

Thanks to everyone for the info on this project. After doing tons of research I'm still trying to figure out if this is something that can be done without ripping all of my hair out. I just don't want to tear my tgp apart to figure out this isn't something I want to get into. That being said hopefully somebody can answer a few questions. What I have decided to do is use my front exhaust manifold and a log style 3100 on the rear capped off. I know the tgp crossover pipe uses 2 bolts on the flange instead of 3. My plan is to cut off the 3 bolt flanges and weld them back together on the tgp crossover. The only question is, are the crossover pipes the same length and will they match up to the manifolds? I know I could use the 3.1 manifolds and port them but heard after porting that much theres not much metal left and they might not deal too well. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
