Installed a reverse backup camera

If anybody is planning on installing a reverse camera, the middle number plate light is the perfect spot.

I bought a wifi reverse camera (http://bit.ly/alicamera) and mounted it on a metal plate that I painted black before.

I took out the middle light above the number plate and screwed the metal plate with the camera to the plastic.

Looks good Netuddki! Nice job! The U.S. spec cars don't have the middle plate light though. Our license plates are much smaller here than the Euro ones and don't require it. Most cars here only have 1 or 2 plate lights. That being said you could still mount a rearview camera to the middle portion of the trunk like you did. It would just be mounted between the 2 plate lights our cars have and directly to the trunk lid instead of where a plate light would be.

Looks really clean. I have been looking into these off an on. I just hadn't come up with a major need. Maybe I'll put it on for the wife.

Yeah I thought about it after I posted that lol. We still don't have 3 of them though. It also doesn't help that I haven't owned an Alero in over 5 years either. I can't remember all the details of the car all the time. Especially when I don't look at one everyday anymore lol.

Yes, we have three ugly holes there. No plastic cover or something.

It came handy in this case, but otherwise it's just ugly. Three times

Yeah, like Netuddki said they have 3 lol. It's cause the Euro plates are so much bigger than ours.

No, the image is displayed in the car DVD/Navigation unit from China
You have to buy both separately (some units have camera in the package too though).
The wireless receiver must be attached to the DVD unit by a cinch connector marked for camera.

So you replaced the radio with a display type radio unit I see. How does the unit attach to the reverse shifter? Was it a big job getting the new radio to fit or is it a standard mounting like the old radio?

If I remeber correctly.. doesnt the radio hook up need a code for the computer to see it?

Damn Netdukki, thats a nice mod. And cool to finally see someone that added a back-up camera.
Was thinking about if for years.

Maybe, one day if I visit my friend in vienna, I'll have to stop by at your place.
He lives in the 10th district, anywhere close to you?

Do you got a thread about the radio/display unit?
Btw, don't forget about the german thread on motor-talk we got a few more austrians running around there.

Cheers
Julian

I live in the 15th district. Vienna is not that big, so it'S about 20 minutes of drive. You can contact me on Facebook Alero group any time or on my Facebook page (facebook.com/hunnenkoenig)

The radio is this one: http://www.lightinthebox.com/wince-6..._p2543465.html

The navigation software you get on Aliexpress.com
I got this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/8G-SD...417606339.html

I am also on the german board, but I watch it rarely, because it's only one huge thread and I don't really like it that way.

The unit has it's own cable to attach to the reverse shifter. Actually I connected it to the reverse light cable. It switches to camera only if the car is in reverse.

It's a bit of work to fit in the Unit. You have to break out part of the plastic rig behind it in the dash and you need a wiring harness.
I also cut the black frame of the middle console, but you don't have to if you break off that plastic rig. I want to do that too and I want to replace the frame.

There is no code needed. However you will lose the chime sounds. I have a box for that, But I still need the wiring to make.

I will make a write up with video and pictures, when I have everything in place, how I want.

This is the camera working, but with my previous radio without Navigation.
