Starter is Going

My starter is going, the solenoid is sticking and I have to hit it with a hammer every now and then to get it to turn over. I went to RockAuto.com and got the list they have available. Any suggestions for a decent starter? I was thinking of getting one with a warranty from AutoZone or something, theirs costs $180.

I still haven't bought a starter yet. It's to the point now where I need to bang on it every time to get it to start. I searched around, but I haven't found any threads on people replacing the starter. Is there anything funny
I need to look out for? I've got the 3400 V6.

Man $180 is a lot of cash.

I would try a yard. Or see about getting just a solenoid.

If you do the solenoid degrease the thing and regrease the shaft.

I was thinking about taking mine apart and greasing the shaft. My starter is still good, cranks like nothing other, it just sticks almost every time I try to start her up. If I get the time I'll try that first, then get a new / refurbished one.

I looked and didnt see just a solenoid for our starters. Bunch of rat bastards... If the option was available you could fix this for like $20.

I bought a autozone starter new. It sounds like a supercharger. High pitch spinning sound. It works great. No problems for 2 yrs.

Hah, I know where that is too! I went there to get window switches for my friends cavalier a few years ago. Didn't know they had a website though... I'm going to pull the starter tomorrow and see if it is possible to take the solenoid apart and clean it out. After that I'll just be getting a new one anyway. My wife is giving me her credit card for the repairs
