3.4 trouble

I have a strange deal going with my 99 alero with a 3.4. Only when I fill the car with gas, the car will not want to start. I have to hold down the gas, maybe 1/4 throttle for it to keep running. After I get going, it is fine and will idle like it should. Anybody ever hear of this?

Hrmmm, That's odd. Fuel filter issues or something? That's kinda shady, not too sure.

Sounds like theres alot of built up sediment in the bottom of your gas tank that is getting stirred up when you fill the tank, and once it gets stirred up then the sediment is getting sucked onto the prefilter in your tank.

I would say that replacing your fuel filter should definately help, as well as some fuel system cleaner as mentioned might help as well. You may not get it perfect, but as long as it runs better without spending an arm and a leg then you have circumvented the problem for the time being.

I replaced the spark plugs and wires in june, and I just replaced the fuel filter and used some fuel system cleaner, and put some gas in it and it did the same thing, just not as bad.

I knew it needed the fuel filter because I looked at it and it was the original one that came on the car.

Does the fuel pump have a regulator by chance?

I don't believe so, but could be wrong.
