Use what it is told in your owner's manuel 5w30. Synthetic or not is up to you, Before the swap I was using Quaker State Q Horsepower 5w30, worked pretty good to me.
But now I use synthetic Racing Valvoline 20w50, but this just because my engine is made for it... I mean oil clearances on the bearings and it helps keeping a little more compression with 13 PSI...

Oil is pretty much mostly the same as far as brands are concerned, except for the differences between conventional and synthetics. Now racing oil is different, because it has alot of zinc added to it to help protect your engine. But it wreaks havoc on your emissions system, and could ruin your catalytic converter.
As far as weights, 10w-30 is fine. Most GM V6's recommend you to use 10w30, but 5w30 is good too if you live in a colder area.
But when it comes to differences between brands, if you're just buying a quart of conventional 10w30, it doesn't really matter if you buy a name brand, even the generic oils come from major brand name oil companies.

put some 75W in the mazda... winter is coming so you want that heavier oil check your owners manual should tell you. prolly will be a 5w30 or 10w30 maybe even 40.

yeah, i'd say Mobil 1 or Royal Purple for the alero. i'm pretty sure it says 5W30 for all alero's, regardless of the engine type.

if you wanna get rid of sludge. and to get rid of carbon just add like half a litter of AFT (automatic transmision fluid) to you oil few weeks befor you do a oil change and let you oil drain good. Do it all the time on my 350 motor.

you're gonna want to look up the vehicle specs you should find some numbers that tell you the weight vescosity ex. 5w30 then you will see two letters ex. sl, sw it differs from the vehicle. then when you go to get oil look for a seal printed on the oil it should contain the number code and some other tidbits of writing. but it is usually printed in gold

GET MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC! if you have more than 40k on the car dont use synthetic. Dont waste your money on royal purple, mobil 1 is cheaper and nascar recommends it!

I concur. I was reading to see if someone else mentions Royal Purple....it is expensive, my fallback is Mobile1.
