Oil Temperature Gauge

Alright, I'm thinking that in order to mount the sender unit for the Oil Temperature Gauge I need to make or find an adaptor to fit between the oil filter and the mount for it. If I'm wrong, or there is an easier way, someone guide me, but before I step over to venture into this one, I wanted to be sure... so... if anyones done this before, lemme know please. Otherwise, there should be a how to sometime in the next little bit here.

Well, you could tap into a port in the block or head if there is one (which there should be). You could tap into the oil pan, but this may not be the reading you want.

Some people even adapt it right in the oil drain plug.

I want the reading of the oil to be as close to what the oil temp inside the engine would be... any ideas?

Look for any plugs threaded into the block or the head.

Any one that has oil in it when you unscrew it. You're only going to be able to get a temp reading of the "supply" temp. The return is just passages through the head and block.

the hottest oil you'll be able to get a reading on is what's in the pan, if that's what you're looking for...it absorbs heat as it "trickles down" through the engine, then collects in the pan, there isn't a passage where you can read the temp of the oil as it makes it's descent.

I'm thinking I'll just be adding the spacer above the oil filter ring and have it connected there. Thanks for the help though.
