Whats it for?
Hey all!
Could anyone tell me why theres a 1" line running from the outlet line on the radiator to the coolant overflow? It goes along under the intake manifold and into the coolant tank on the passenger side fender. There's a small line running from the tank to the radiator. I would think this one would be used as the overflow line.
Will the cooling system work efficiently without the 1" line?

Well, that's not really the "overflow" tank, it's a surge tank. That 1" line is the main supply for when you add coolant to the system, as there is no cap on the radiator.

So I could eliminate it, IF, I used an overflow tank with proper radiator cap? The aluminum rad I pick up will have a spot for a cap.
The cap on the tank says 15PSI.

Yep, that should work.

since we are on the subject of radiator caps, will putting a heavier radiator cap change the temp the car will run at?

What I meant to say is will a heavier radiator cap make the car take longer to warm up?
