Leave it in 3rd (assuming yours is an auto). 4th is really OD.
The ideal set-up is really one wherein the car crosses the finish line at the very peak of the highest gear's HP band. That, though, takes a LOT of effort and trial-and-error trying different set-ups and settings. I never got all the way there with my racecar (close but not exact). Beyond that ultimate peak, the car shoud not have any more excess power. You will have used up all of the usable power band in each gear. This includes axle gear ratio changes, not just shift points.
