3400 Issues (Head gaskets + burning oil)
I just put money down on a 1999 Alero GLS 3400, 103,000 miles. (It was cheap, and it has every option. I'll probably resell it)
-Coolant in the oil
-Idles Rough
-Blue Smoke
I know the head gaskets and LIM gaskets are almost definitely bad, but I didn't expect that this would cause oil burning as well.
Am I wrong? Would you have blue smoke with bad head gaskets?
BTW, anyone who's done both head gaskets and LIM, how long did it take you for the entire repair?

Its possible because if oil gets into the cylinder...hence blue smoke = oil burning, also can lead to oil in the cooling system as well. Not to mention overheating, and always running low on coolant.

P.S. I'll let you know that its about $500.00 on average for the LIM so factored in the heads, for a proper repair, including milling, flow test, and pressure test, and magnaflux check you looking at about $1200.00 including parts labor and the head set.

I plan on doing it myself - I've done the LIM before, just not the head gaskets.

LIM = 4 hours
Head Gasket = 1.5 days, including senting out to have tested. If not tested, then only about 7 hours. but you have to torque.

Theres no reason you couldnt do this over the course of a weekend.
Bolts will run ya $30ish, head gaskets around $30ish and the LIMG probably around $70ish for the METAL ones.

The plastic ones suck. Heat and plastic, do the math. They work, but more prone to failure than metal ones.
When at the parts store request the metal ones. Open the box. Pull them out, if they are black plastic with an orange gasket, dont buy them.

Don't use the OEM Gasket. It'll fail again.

If they are Fel-Pro gaskets, the part number will end in "T". Those are the revised heavy-duty ones.
