There's an interesting article in last months Chevy high performance on turbocharging a cavalier
Little Evil 4 Was the title
They say the ecotec block is strong, Full race versions crank out 1,000hp or more, the stock crank will take 500
it got me remembering lingenfelter's

this was something like a 4 page article in a magazine. I still have it laying around here. They essentially go on about their juiced motor and how it blew up so they go the turbo route

figured i'd add this on as well
the turbo system used was a stage 2 air to air intercooled setup
http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/Cavalier/Ecotec.htm
by HAHN racecraft if anyone's interested
"The numbers are definitely optimistic, as the tests occurred at 59 degrees. Nonetheless, it is easy to see why this car ran a 12.96 ET at 3000 pounds total weight...the 'area under the curve' is massive for a turbo four cylinder 2.2 liter engine. For those of you unfamiliar with that phrase, it refers to how much torque, and therefore HP, is developed at low-to-mid RPM, driving the graph line high well before torque and HP peaks are achieved. What this translates to is a car that does not require excessive RPM to achieve substantial acceleration, which is not always the case on turbocharged four-cylinder applications."

well on top of having the automatic, i also have the slowmo 4 door version, although i guess thats not much of a difference, but all the same i guess.....someone do me a favor and make me a good sales pitch as to why i would turbocharge my ecotec versus getting a tuner car like an acura integra or honda civic with a b18 straight from japan.

well if you like to play follow the leader you can do what you want.
alot of people ask me "why would you waste/modify an oldsmobile" and i would tell them "the same reason you DONT modify a civic. you try to be different"

besides being different, you'll spend thousands less turboing your car, and the eco loves boost, so if you do it right you'll get a lot of power out of it. plus you'll blow the doors off just about any integra or civic, even in an auto 4 door. throw on the B&M shiftplus and that auto will shift quicker than just about any manual. the best part will be the look on the guys face driving the b18 integra when he realizes he just lost to a 4 door alero

got mine from summit racing...part number BMM-70380. also note that its not made specifically for our transmissions, but it does work very well when installed properly.
here's a link:

There's still one brand new 5-speed alero left! You could always go get a new one...
