Hey guys.
Just looking for some input.
Im traveling to seattle this coming weekend and I was planning on picking up a new sub. I found a few places that carry what im after for cheaper than I can get it here. including exchange.
Anyway. Im looking for SQ more than SPL. Im thinking a ten in a sealed enclousure should do the trick. The enclosure will either be a custom box or a full fiberglass jobi in the back corner. I want something relatively small. either way the subs I am looking at are:
JL 10w6v2
http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w6v2.html
or
Pheonix Gold Xenon 10d2 or d4(im uncertian which I should go with)
http://www.phoenixgold.com/2004/xenonspeakers.html
Im looking to power each respectivly with the same manufaturers amp.
JL AMP
500.1
http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/5001.html
Pheonix Gold Amp
either a 400.1 or 1 600, sure if I want room to grow?
http://www.phoenixgold.com/2004/xenonamps.html
So can anyone give input on any of these products. Im looking for anything from wether you have used it to maybe your friend has one. even other alternantives.
Thanx for your time.

Definately JL, my friend just picked up 2 12w6's and i stress a "moderate" amp for the subs and the bass note was awesome, not extreme but just solid, not loose.........id recommend those subs definately, plus the JL amp would compliment the sub really good......

I have a 10" Type R sub in my car, with an MTX Mono 780 watt amp, and it pounds pretty good, more bass when I want it, but less when I want it. It is in a sealed box and it sounds good, I recommend it. MTX is good too, they have a 5 year warrenty or something, so if it breaks notify them and they will mail you a new one. Good stuff.

I agree the Kappa Perfects sound great...and you can put them in any box because of the Q insert.

really simple. leave the insert out for free air, or put in the two depending on the size of the enclosure. its held in by the magnet

I have an old school JL Audio 12 inch DVC sub from like 8 years ago in my car, with a Phoenix Gold ZX350 amp on it. It still sounds awesome. They are definitely durable!

if i remember and understand it correctly it limits the suspesion travel of the speaker so the movement matches better to the volume behind the sub.

The final decision should be made by auditioning them. We can all have our own opinion on what sounds better, but there is no fooling your own ears. Just be sure to audiotion both subs with each amp. The crossover settings and slopes will change the performance of the subs. I would personaly go with the JL amp for sure. It delivers great power and has one of the best crossovers for the price.

He has a good point...WE aren't the ones who are going to be listening to it...and I actually had an old college prof say this to me but, if it sounds good...it is good...meaning if you like the way it sounds, then that's all that matters (unless you are big into SQ and are competing)

Well Im back from Nats and I have a new toy.
I found a 500/1 at cars toys and couldnt help myself. The guy did it for the sticker price including tax. So all i need now is a nice sub. Wish I could bring more poop back with me. If I go over my exempt limit I have to pay duty, and both provincial and federal tax. And thats on the cost after exchange, so that makes it a woping 40% more. I call that taking it up the ass.
I was going to buy the 10w6v2 D4 too, but it would be the same once I paid all the duty and tax for me to buy it here.
So hopfully I can go work a bit of a deal with my local audio guy next week for it.
The hoe is gonna sound nice once again.

Well went down to the local A&B Sound. Talked with my guy there and told him what they were letting the 10W6v2 go for down in seattle. Well he matched it. Car Toys = $379 US, A&B Sound = $460 CDN. So he said it should be here in 5 business days. So I need to start building an enclosure soon.
Can anyone give me some pointers on building a sealed enclusure. I think it will be between .6 and 1 Cuft. I figure Ill use 3/4 inch MDF. What type of sealent shoudl i sue, silicone, construction adhesive? Any ideas of a good way to secure it to the trunk. I want to make as difficult as possile for theives to take it.
Thanx
