I really don't think that it matters. I'm trying to think if GM had an old version of the 3.4 that they would have used in the alero's but i don't think so and even if they did i don't think their would be a differant pump anyway.

Yea nutin like actually comparing the two to figure out if it will work. I should and even if it doesn't you can try to sell it and if you can it doesn't look like you will be loosing that much from it.

The power steering pump is the same for any 3100 or 3400 engine...

It'll probably work but they are different. 02 and prior had something called variable assisted steering (or something like that) which meant that at faster speeds the steering was a little stiffer. It supposidly give a better sense of control. I thinks its just a valve that goes between the pump and the pressure line. You could probably change the valve over to that pump.

The variable assist is just added on to the same pump. The pump itself is actually used from 87 to current if not even longer. The only change was the reservoir design for the 3100/3400 intake plenum.

if you guys check out the pic on the link, the pressurized line (top one) is where the difference, on my 2000 and im assuming 2002's and below theres an adapter that screws into that port which houses an electrical plug, and curves the port upward to attach to the line.......

so for future reference all that has to be done to make it work is pulling off the old adapter and threading it onto the new one, when i get it changed out ill let you know if its that simple lol

Yeah, that's the variable assist solenoid, just has to be re-installed on the new one. Even if you purchased a new one at the parts store it wouldn't come with it.
