Hi!
My name is Jeff...I'm 33 and I live just outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota. I bought my 2003 Alero last fall. I hadn't needed a car for a few years, so when I went looking for something affordable and sporty, I wasn't sure what I was going to come home with. I test drove a couple of Eclipses, and a Honda or two, and just wasn't feeling it. The dude at the dealership said he had something he wanted me to look at, and I decided to take him up on it.
I hadn't even researched the Alero, and I was a bit suprised to see it in a 2 door...up until then, I thought they ony came in 4! Aside from a couple of rattles on the test drive, I was impressed with the agressive acceleration and the decent handling. Much to my suprise, it was equipped with a 3.4L V6, which provided more than enough take off from the stoplights! I had convinced myself that I was going to drive it for a year or so, and then trade her in before I had to start paying for any major repairs, but the more I drove it, the more I started to fall in love with it. The ride is smooth as glass, the gas mileage is outstanding so long as I dont drive like an idiot, and the stereo is nice and loud.
You can see that there is a bit of an eyebrow issue under the right headlight, but overall the body and paint on this thing is spectacular. It almost radiates red.
The rear end also presents a small flaw as you can see the space between my trunk and the left tail light. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that it wasn't the trunk that was wonky, it was the tail light...it seems that it was removed/replaced, and when it was put back on the car, it wasn't moved in towards the trunk enough.
I've read thru alot of posts on this site, and am completely amazed at some of the really beautiful Alero's that are here, and I was inspired to register, and hopefully take some of these ideas to incorporate into my own bad girl.
Now as a noob, I understand that my unlceared corners and whatnot will draw endless ridicule, but something about baking my headlight assembly in the oven scares me a little bit, since I am not at all mechanically inclined...I have people that do that stuff for me...plus...it's still pretty much winter here, and my car looks like this...
However, I would like to look into installing a cold air intake to maybe give my v6 a little kick...also some sort of mesh/screen to fill in my front bumper in that space underneath the plate, and where the fog lights are. I saw some really cool dash/speedometer upgrades in the forums that sound/look like a fairly easy job...lowering her a bit with something other than the stock steel wheels (which don't look you know...horrible...at least they arent plastic...), but nothing too loud...I don't want to be eyeballed by those kids...I think you all call them ricers...you know...the cars that look like they sorta used to be a Honda, so low to the ground you wonder how they drive into parking lots...all covered full of stickers of dragons and sh*t like the more stickers you have, the faster the car will go, and they sound like a kazoo when they motor off from a stoplight...I will never understand the kazoo tail pipe...my friend calls them "gook pipes", but I'm not sure if that's a racial slur, so I will try not to just throw that euphamisim out there casually...but Jesus, it's Minneapolis in winter...not Tokyo drift...just snow drifts. I half expect to see Paul Walker and Vin Diesel next to me at the gas pumps, but it's usually just some culturally confused kids playing the music too loud.
Anyhow, thanks be to all who have come to these forums before me. Everyone here has convinced me to not casually trade my Alero away for something more commonly accepted as a "nice sporty car", and see the potential beauty in the car I have.
I look foward to getting to know y'all, and sharing my Alero with you.
Man...it's so shiny and red!!! I just want to lick it or something...
